Are those lines normal on Scott 24?

Imodius,
please show the back.
(32 is on laid paper, and very rare. (Only 3 are known)).
24 is relatively common.

This pictures is the face of a #32. The next image is an image of the back. The stamp is back lit to show the horizontal laid lines (light and dark).

This link will take you to a technical report from the VG Greene Foundation. There is information here that you can use to test your stamp.

An angled view in strong light is recommended. See my paper, https://www.academia.edu/36076139/A...n_Laid_Paper

This back light sucks. It's for film negatives.

Usually you can see the laid lines without a backlight. I can see the laid lines clearly on the back of that 31 without a backlight. Using a backlight implies they don't show up as well on the 32 or somehow they are unclear.

The lines were quite easy to see on the copy I had of #32. The only way I could share it visually in an image on a PC was to hold it up with a light behind it and take a picture of it. A flat scan will not show the lines as well for illustration.

Best, Mike

Here are the other three laid paper stamps I have. The two copies of the 1c are damaged but appear to be the same paper as the 2c. The 3c copy is sound and certified. The paper is slightly different and the laid line pattern appears closer together. The 3c is the most common but is still a tough stamp to find.

here is a 1 cent #31. This one has a VGG certificate that confirms it is genuine.

here is a more pronounced laid paper copy of my # 33
