The Franconians were a Germanic tribe. You may be forgiven for being lost in which country certain parts of present-day France and Germany are.
Still, 35 pf. (German currency) was not commonly used in Paris around that time. And French stamps were not commonly used in Germany.

Most of the international wars in Europe in the last two or three centuries involved territorial issues between France and Germany. The regions in the frontier area changed hands several times.
