Uncurling hinges is a simple exercise, providing you employ the PRINZ or similar POINTY NOSE tongs.
Pick up set, run the pointies length wise, fold over the leg of the tongs gum outside. Seconds flat.
Place on the desk, a tacky finger, will pick up each hinge from the set / stack in turn. No messing about.
I note in my latest PRINZ packets, the cutting dies have been altered, the hinge "leaf" that attaches to the stamp, has been cut in half, leaving less surface area to attach to the stamp.
Harder to deal with, with extensive creases and curls, anyone not using the pointies are in for a trying time.
I have had some success keeping the entire package of hinges in a storage or freezer bag. Just remove a few hinges at a time from the package, immediately put it back in the storage or freezer bag and keep that bag zip locked at all times.
I am experiencing excellent results with the latest Prinz.
They are peeling off, with nary a mark BOTH on the stamp and the Album page. I even peeled 2 that were just attached, with grabbing. That's almost unheard of.
(I had just replaced 20 or so Mongolia, as better examples)
Rod thats interesting to hear that the prinz are coming off easily. A couple of days ago while looking over several different brand types of hinges still in original bags I was doing a little bit of thinking about why the new hinges are not anything like the old Dennison. Have read and head many articles and discussions on this including on this forum also. I actually wondered if anyone ever thought there may have been a carnauba or similar wax film applied, or treated glassine like self stick stamp backing paper shine before the gum coating was applied. This would obviously cause the dried gum to easily seperate from the hinge leaving just the trace of gum behind. Just my thoughts.
