The one in Aldrin's personal collection was actually sent and returned from the moon, so that is a big difference. In any case, a really nice item that would be welcomed in almost any collection.

I'm going to stick my neck out (well, not really) and say that the example given in this thread is a louse...

In my not so humble opinion.

p.s. I don't wear hats, so I cannot be made to eat my hat, even if the item is proven genuine...

I agree, especially with the (difference in the) signatures!

Actually, I think the signatures are very close. But I still believe that this was a more common item, rather than the expensive ones carried to the moon.

The form of the signatures IS good. My concern would be is the cover a copy or replica. The "moon" cover cachet is blue, and it is unclear if the scan above is suffering from bad lighting. No matter if the cover was carried to the moon, if the signatures are genuine, they are worth a lot of money when signed together on one Apollo cover. Thousands of dollars as compared to MANY thousands of dollars for a real "moon" cover.

The cachet (Type 2 as described in the link above) looks okay to me. I guess we will have to agree to disagree about the signatures. They do not look very close to me.

The number of fake "three signature" Apollo 11 covers is legion, and finding one like this would be highly unlikely under these circumstances, but I suppose it is theoretically possible.

Hopefully, the owner will post the results of any authentication here.

The odds are against it being genuine but I watched Storage Wars for years and was shocked at the stuff within sometimes.

Me, too! Up until I found out that they often seeded those units, according to insiders...

Out of all the stamp amass what made the OP pick that item out?

It is in a time of stamping that for the most part has not matured yet!

Those signatures are a match, in my opinion.

The Aldrin and Armstrong autographs have simiar thickness and show little variation in pressure: could they have been added by autopen?

I am looking for someone to authenticate it, I was working through cataloging a large section of first day covers and that was the last item in one of the books

As Rog pointed out, the PSA/DNA is a good choice:

The fee to authenticate an Armstrong signature alone is $250.00

Good luck!

I have used PSA/DNA for a bunch of autographs and am very happy. I purchased a box of covers for $10 at a local auction once that had dozens of autographs at the bottom. The deceased owner had sent requests for autographs to Hollywood stars like the Three Stooges and Ronald Reagan and many others back in the 1930's and 40's and most sent them. I looked them up and a few were quite valuable as genuine. I sold a couple on ebay for over $1000 each including the one signed in pencil on a scrap of paper by all three of the original Stooges. You never know.
