So I think I have W427 the one with the 1/2 cent stamp on it. Because I think it is glazed. the other I think is W428A because It looks unglazed and darker. Help!

so is there something that tips you off? Is glazed more shiny? The brown maybe needs to be darker?

According to the literature the brown glazed is a thin paper with glazing added to a) keep the ink from running and b) keep it from falling apart in the mail. The method of paper production causes one side of the manila to be smooth and the other side to be rough. Unfortunately the same is true of the brown although the cause is the application of the glazing. The brown is brown but the manila occurs in a variety of shades. Confused yet? Try this article for help:
"Brown vs. Manila: How to Correctly Identify Those Circular Die Papers" by Lehr, Bill in U.S. Stamp News Vol. 15, No. 7, Whole # 110, JUL 2009
Also, remember brown is a color but Manila is a paper type.
