Here are some examples from a small purchase from 4 years ago, that was discovered sitting in the back of my stamp closet. Below is a first day stamp cover from Stamp Day, March 8, 1952, with an interesting Cinderella.

A tattered cover with some interesting stamps.

Part of back.

Another letter, with a great Return Address. (Contents)

And just another random item.

Any comments would be appreciated.

When outbound letters were handed over directly to the mailman during his rounds,he cancelled the letter with the OR obliteration in the circle next to the stamp. Once he brought the letter to the towns post office it received the lozenge postmark. That is the more common type.
The scarcer types have the OR cancelled on the stamp itself (4 OR's,one in each corner). Out going as before; but the receiver was further down line on the mailmans itinerary. So it never needed to go to the towns post office.Covers of this type are more verifiable (genuine) when there is the senders address also;maybe a letter inside or an invoice of some sort.
