The 7LB13 matches the listed characteristics of "forgery F" in volume III of Larry Lyons' "The Identifier for Carriers, Locals, Fakes, Forgeries and Bogus Posts of the United States", pages 1098-1101.

Right away I note that the PR4 should have yellowish paper. The cancel is bogus as well for a newspaper stamp. Other than that, I would need a better scan of the bottom to point out more potential flags.

Newspaper stamp is a total forgery. Fake cancel on a fake stamp. These stamps were never canceled this way, they were with a brush and ink. Every example of these I have ever seen with a circular or oval handstamp cancel has been fake; I have seen a few dozen.

It's not too shabby. One can never have too many books. I've heard it said that a scholarly collector will have a philatelic library which takes up as much space as their collection.

The broader point being that Scott is totally inadequate to collect carriers and locals by.

Scott is totally inadequate to collect almost anything. It's a useful starting point, but that is all.

As noted above, BOTH are forgeries. Needless to say I am disappointed with the results but at least two forgeries are off the market! I will be sending both back to APS for their Forgery Library.

I see you joined here only a few months ago - probably just after sending these in. It is Monday morning quarterbacking, alas, if the timing had been reversed, a quick review here might have saved time and money. Better luck next time!

Yes before subbing any more stamps, I'll post for a review here on SCF!
