SENEGAL
Currently dealing with Coastal erosion due to rising sea levels and Climate Change.

The country famed for its MUCILAGE
Its sticky sap from the Acacia tree (SENEGAL GUM) Has attached BILLIONS of postage stamps to envelopes worldwide.
(Gum Arabic)

Guilty of producing the famous "Stamp thin"
Also, apparently tasty, and a good source to eat for an upset tummy.

See how it is harvested here, at 16 minutes.........

You have done it again
Thanks Vayolene !
Being as the Aerogramme, is pmkd 20 years hence, perhaps the
possible scripted surcharge may be relevant.

IFAN (I.F.A.N., Institut fondamental d'Afrique noire or Fundamental Institute of Black Africa) is a cultural and scientific institute in the nations of the former French West Africa. Founded in Dakar, Senegal in 1938 as the Institut français d'Afrique noire (French Institute of Black Africa), the name was changed only in 1966. It was headquartered in what is now the building of the IFAN Museum of African Arts. Since its founding, its charge was to study the language, history, and culture of the peoples ruled by French colonialism in Africa.

Those with swaps, inclination and time to fritter may identify the various types of the market series. Lots of large gaps in my selection.

Ambitious! I never tried to collect the different types, but did put together a nice mint basic set of the market series. A lovely design, as with so many of the French African issues.

Very good! Chasing varieties isn't usually me, but, having a heap of them at one point, I thought I'd give it a go. Oddly, I don't think the similar series from other colonies have the different types - or the catalogues don't differentiate them.

Already found some varieties.

Have one stamp postmarked MARSEILLES-BOUCHES Du RHONE.
How do we explain that?

Geoff's Vignette has issues as "Market Scene"
Scott has it as "Senegalese preparing food"

Sundry later stamps.

Scott doesn't know its arse from its elbow, mon ami.

Marseilles? Probably not cancelled in Dakar, and given a cancellation when it got to France. Less likely, a collector wanting a used cooy and adding to a French envelope.

For the record, and,
How may we describe the deckled edge Pmk?
and, as I understand it, are these all TPO / RPO Postmarks?
I do not come across many at all.
Thanks.

I was under the impression all those French Colonies issues were available in France from the PO for quite some time, and could be used for postage...
