I very recently started on the long, and maybe exasperating, journey of sorting, identifying and mounting the stamps of Mexico.

I found these 2 items on an album page I was removing stamps from. Neither had any notations next to them, but the inverted, doubling of the printed image leads me to believe these would be examples of printers waste. Scott Catalog doesn't mention the existence of printers waste for these issues, but I know that means nothing.

These are Sc. type A62 (1915), but are imperf with full gum.

Opinions?

I would agree that these are printers waste.

Scott does say imperfs were "probably not regularly issued". Weasel words to be sure, but since the rouletting is so finely done, I take it to mean that maybe imperfs might have easily passed into post office stocks. The images in my Scott only show the 1c as rouletted with the rest from the following perfed issue.

If these were rouletted or perfed they'd have a better chance of being legitimate errors. Now, Celis Cano does list and illustrate a pair very much like the right stamp as a double impression. And that one's actually a triple impression(!). Despite the listing, I think there are then too many different types of errors like this to think that these got sold through a post office.

Sure look like printers waste. And agree, Scott is meaningless in this regard - although to be fair, most other catalogues don't seem to be much better.

I believe the key here is the stamps being gummed. If rejected for printing they would not have been. Russian stamps of the same time period are full of such "errors" and can be quite valuable. They were either intentional creations or genuine defects sold by the Government and quasi-governmental entities through to the philatelic trade to generate revenue.

While not super valuable they are desirable to collectors and can add depth and interest to a collection. I like!

Yes, I like them too myself & certainly collectible. Here's a nice Spanish one (1879, Sc 244) I had recently (now sold).

Here is a Russian example from the same time period:

Thanks for all the input. I will be labeling these as printers waste.

gmot - Spanish printers waste is fun to collect, and very affordable, when it is described as such. There are many who try to pass it off as legitimate errors, and jack the price up to boot. Most of what I have comes in random collections, so I haven't intentionally bought any.

rodgcam - Nice example as well.

floortrader - Agreed. It's the little things like this that will set your collection apart from everyone elses. It's the "in between" stuff I really like. The items that are not normally listed in general catalogs.
