In the lower picture, you see the crowns placed slightly lower as you move from left to right. That is watermark '373', making it Scott 385a. The lefthand stamp in the earlier picture has watermark '313' sideways and is Scott 385. Scott 324 has no watermark.
If the crowns are upright in straight lines with letters between it, it is watermark '313' upright. That also exists on the HKD 2 of 10 May 1982. That was a stamp printed in lithography, but it is not listed by Scott (maybe on another page for 1982 stamps?). Coincidentally, that is listed under number 324a by Stanley Gibbons. |

Thank you sooooo much. These QEII are tricky for me. I really like these stamps and many other definitives from HK- however- HK must be pretty popular as the prices are high! Many at CV or even over for MNH. Working on some of my more modern stamps in my album and wanting to share updated pages. We will see if I can get lucky and find some bargain lots on ebay. |

You have a couple of stamps with Shanghai postmarks: - 5c Queen Victoria in the 1882-1902 series, spelled "SHANCHAI". - 4c Queen Victoria in the 1904-1911 series.
I like to separate Hong Kong issues with China postmarks and put them on separate pages.

Gibbons Commonwealth lists and prices Hong Kong stamps with Post Offices in China postmarks. Sort of.*
They note that you need to have a good solid cancel with a significant portion of the cancel on the stamp in order to meet their standards. Shanghai on a 5c QV on watermark Crown CA has a small premium. (Shanghai on a 5c Crown CC would have a very significant premium.)
Personally, if I can i.d. the postmark, and I'm not paying any premium for it, I'll often buy it, even if it isn't a beautiful strike.
*I say "sort of" because Gibbons doesn't break out the actual cancel types on a given stamp. There is only one listing/value for a Shanghai cancel on the 5c QV watermark Crown CA. Doesn't matter which type of cancel we're talking about.
The Moo HK catalogue, on the other hand, has 32 different Shanghai cancels alone, give or take, and prices each of them on each individual applicable HK stamp issue. Is that way more information than someone needs? Probably, yes. Is it nice to know that the information is out there? I'd say, definitely, yes. Others may disagree. |

Thanks all - I love the detail and background. I learn and I do get excited when there is an interesting cancel.
@Robert - Question- This one confused me - you said Shanghai cancel on: -4c Queen Victoria in the 1904-1911 series? Did you mean King Edward VII?
Thanks! |

Ha! Thank you -notRobert
And I think NSK meant 285a and 285 - but in NSK's defense, he is not a Scott user and I probably said something wrong in my original ask! |

Finished mounting these lovelies. Qeii 1982 All MNH except the 90c. If anyone has any suggestions of good Hong Kong sellers I would appreciate any tips. --- A few of the QEii 1973 multiple St. Edwards Crown and C.A. I have a few more coming - but they are coming from Australia, so will probably take some time :) - the WM are tough as usual for me. |

Well done! it's coming along nicely. Quote: the WM are tough as usual for me. When you get to the issues of this period and later, they are tough to make out for everyone. |

Webb - Page 108, 109: 7. KOWLOONTONG Kowloontong, or New Kowloon grew up as a European residential area and garden city. A branch post office was opened in a kiosk on Waterloo Road. No record exists of the date, but it is believed to be 4 November1933. This office was not re-opened after the liberation, as by that time the Kai Tak airfield had been extended and now occupied the former site of Kowloontong. Linus Cjd, you beat me by 2 minutes! |
