I was just looking through various
ebay lots to see how much an 1888 bisect was going for (Scott #28a, SG37A - the 1p overprinted "2 cents") when I noticed something unexpected. I have a couple of these on piece, so there is no addressee info... but there were many of these listed that were the full cover - and every single one of them was addressed to the same person: Mr. A. G. Aikman of Belize (city). And there are well over a dozen of these; some have printed name/addresses, some are handwritten - and all different sellers from different countries).
This makes it pretty apparent that A. G. Aikman was speculating on this, and obviously went to his local post office to get many of these cancelled and sent to himself. It's not *proof* that is what happened, though - and I was wondering if anyone here knows anything about this?
I belong to the BWI Study Circle, and I could post there as well but I thought I'd start here because I'm starting to get to know some of you and I'm interested in your thoughts on this.
Thanks! There was an earlier (local) overprint that was also bisected; this is the second, more common overprint.
