Hi! Could this stamp be a Mi155? In Michel there are specified for this stamp three different categories: unused with original gum (hinge), with postmark cancel and other special cancel. What does "other special cancel" mean in this case? Thanks in advance for your help.
Those are known as bar cancels or "barrados" in Spanish. For most stamps, they drastically decrease the value compared to postally used, but for a few lower value stamps, they are actually more valuable than used.
There are many different cancels typically found on this 1875 issue. Edifil specialized lists around 11, 3 of which are pretty common. Most commonly I've seen a lozenge with diamond in middle, or a circular date cancel. Plus the barrados and the telegraph punch hole if the stamp was used for telegraph purposes.
Appears that Michel lists both the barrados and the punch in a separate column (with the same value, which is not always accurate), so that's what they mean by "special cancels".
I suppose that in this case bar cancels fit to "other special cancels", especially the sign used by Michel is 3 small horizontal lines very similar with the bar cancels image. Thanks a lot for your help!
