There should not be anything. These are what is known as Penny Red 'stars.' The one with the plate number on each side has the corner letters at bottom repeated in reverse order at top. This one has the so-called stars in the top corners. They are an older type of Penny Red.

If you use a magnifying glass, you should be able to see the first one yourself. The second may be difficult, given the position of the postmark.

Has been struck twice, suggesting multiple stamps on cover.

Possibly a new discovery LKU (Last Known Usage) May 25th 1861
Known usage
27th November 1858 to 29th September 1860

Single ring Code "D"

Yours dated 24th May 1861 (with a "dropped year slug numeral "4" )
