New Member Here With So Many Questions

a few years ago I sold most of my stamp collection through a consignment seller on ebay. although it made the process very much hassle free, I have to admit I regret that decision. so now im looking to sell some/a lot/all of what I still have. that includes very few individual stamps, but a couple thousand postcards maybe half posted, a lot of fdcs and some random odds and ends that didnt get sent off with the rest. only this time I want to sell in small as possible lots. and I want to make sure I dont let a high value rarity slip by for a couple dollars. I know it may be unlikely I've even got one. but im thinking this forum may be my best bet to be sure that doesnt happen. so thats where im at...also, where is a good place to upload images of a whole collection???

Do bear in mind that most postcards and FDCs are worth very little - the average in my experience being a penny for postcards, ten pence for FDCs. Selling them individually (if they sell at all) will entail hours of scanning, describing, packaging etc. Perhaps you could try uploading a few cards that you think may carry some interest (popular themes, local printings rather tham mass-printed views etc).

It will happen. Don't lose sleep over it. Just go forward. It takes years of experience buying, selling, and studying. And even then you will never know everything about your items. There are few "value guides" to postcards, and most card (and FDC) prices in the market are very modest compared to the overhead costs of ebay fees and shipping costs. The postal history aspects of the used cards/covers take more study to know the details of rates, cancels and more. It depends a lot on your time, effort, and skill to describe items and it also depends on your selling philosophy of using a site like ebay as a net-price or an auction venue. If you are dead-set to get absolute top value for every item, then you will spend a lot of time. I would be inclined to make a bulk transaction and spend my hobby time on the next collection rather than a past one.

I am in complete agreement with John Becker. And if this exercise is for the money, it will never completely feel right. You will always feel like you could have done better if... then you will add up the fees... etc...

There is so much satisfaction in research. Read up, find out, explore, learn and discover that a little story with a postcard or a cover will bring so much more satisfaction. Little mysteries need to be shared and this is where you will find the value of your collection. Best advice is look at what you have. If you like what you see, dig in. If you don't what you see, bulk sell and start an interesting sideline. (That's what John Becker suggests) Stay interested and find the enjoyment.
