I have this Allenstein stamp (added as separate post) and I can't seem to find anything about the pre-1902 series. (I collect only USPS but my wife decided maybe she'd play with an international album that was part of a collection I bought. Now we're both hooked!)

What you've linked to is a common German 10 pf stamp.

That's a German stamp (MiNr. 56 from 1899/1900) cancelled in Zarpen (Holstein). There are three color varieties which are difficult to distinguish in a scan. If it's the common variety, the CV is €1. The others, €90 or €60.

This is the actual stamp. I found something that indicates the rare stamp would be 26mmx22mm and I suspect this is not, though not sure if that is the measurement of the whole stamp or just the printed image. Is there a Scott Catalogue reference number or other reference number for the stamp? Many thanks in advance.

Peter, oh absolutely! It was the only example I found through a Google search. I'll admit, the price they were asking made me extremely hopeful I had something worth that much.

The "STEIN" partial cancel you see on the stamp is probably (HOL)STEIN.

The Allenstein issues were done right after WWI and the stamps all had overprints. Here are the Allenstein:
