Can anyone throw any light on the picture attached, postmark 1 ..St Johns Newfoundland dared 16th May 1956 and then a second postmark stating 'CITIZENSHIP DAY MAY 18'.
I've tried looking this up on the net, but cannot find any Citizenship Day with that date ???

That looks to be a slogan cancel. The box to the right is part of the cancel, which is dated the 16th. The reference to the 18th is more or less an advertisement/public service announcement.

There is a catalogue for slogan cancels. I don't have it.
