Yes I agreed that ebay's policy regarding stamps of Persia is aggravating! The same is true for Cuba! I recently posted Cuban stems from the Spanish. Prior to 1900 ebay told me to cease-and-desist!

ebay is simply doing what they believe they need to do to be in compliance with the laws in the countries they operate in. ebay' motivation is to be profitable and keep stockholders happy. As such, they seek to increase listings and transactional volume as much as possible. At the same time, they want to avoid costly legal entanglements. They do this by implementing simple algorithms which demonstrates their due diligence and gives them a defensible legal standing in a court of law.
