I'm another one who has inherited a stamp collection, from my father. Stamps were mounted into a book published by the Scott Stamp Co. Many (most?) have been cancelled by the post office. There are probably 1,000+ stamps.

Most of the 'collection' are international stamps, many dating from the 1930's. Some are from the 1940's and 1950's. There is a HUGE variety of countries represented, many countries that no longer even exist! I take it that he arranged with friends of friends of friends to get the stamps sent to him from all over the world. He then carefully took the stamps off the envelopes and postcards and pasted them into this book, which is arranged by country. Some of these countries don't even exist anymore. Some of the stamps have fallen off their pages or were never mounted, and I've just put them in an envelope.

I recognize that there is little, if any monetary value to this. I just would like to find a place or a person that would enjoy and appreciate having them.

I've attached some photos to give you some idea of what I'm dealing with.

You are correct that there appears to be little monetary value from what you have shown. However, some collectors like these items just for the possibility of a "hunt" and finding something hidden in there. You'll hear some recommendations from others on this board, but the best place is usually a local stamp club, where you would just drop it off with the leader of that club and they will make sure it gets distributed among the members. Good luck.

jkgourmet.

In recent months have made large donations of stamps and other philatelic items to Stamps for the Wounded. A legitimate 501c3 non-profit based in the DC area.

Donations are tax deductible. And SFW will provide acknowledgement letter.

Good luck.

Stamps for the Wounded provides support activities to injured (wounded) US Veterans. It began in 1942 in one Veterans Hospital caring for soldiers of WWII and never looked back.

It would be a good idea to see if some members of a stamp club could peruse the collection and then compensate you for anything that has some value. As more experienced members have noted what you have shown does NOT seem worth much but a new collector would probably be overjoyed to start their collection with stamps from some of these countries.

But you have shown too little for anyone to make a blanket statement but, also, this is not the ideal place to post pictures of every single stamps - simply impractical. Plus there may be a handful of stamp that may have a little worth because of the potential of it possibly having even more worth due to an error or special cancel. One example is the 4 cent Water Conservation stamp from the 1960's issued by the US Postal Service. The vast majority of these stamps are worth face value unused or, if in very nice condition and never used, a few cents more than face (and even then this value would be for someone starting out and purchasing a grab bag of stamps from around this time). However, if the 4 cent Water Conservation stamp does not have tagging - a method the USPS uses to dissuade counterfeiting - then you have a stamp worth anywhere from $20 - 70. To determine this you need an ultraviolet light which would show whether the stamp is tagged or not. So some sleuthing would be involved to find this error.

Therefore, going to a stamp club to get a better ballpark valuation of the collection would be the best recourse. Then you can donate the stamps of little worth to various charities. I have donated to Stamps for Wounded Vets and it is a good cause and they send you a receipt fairly promptly.

The Water Conservation stamp was issued before tagging was applied to US stamps so none of them exist with tagging.

Most of the forums that I visit frequently have a button to thank a member for their reply. I do not see one here, so thank you to everyone for their suggestions. I truly appreciate it.

We donate monthly to Tunnels to Towners foundation, so I'm particularly pleased to learn about Stamps for the Wounded. My father was a veteran of WWII, so it's even more meaningful, and I promise that any monetary proceeds will go to Stamps for the Wounded.

In case someone has other suggestions, I will pop by every so often. And, eventually, follow up with what I did with these. Again, thank you.
