The water sure didn't do that $4 Columbian any favors!! The $5 actually doesn't look all that bad. From 5 feet away and from the front, anyway. |

I've thought about collecting used, abused and damaged stamps. I feel these stamps need love too. I think it would be interesting to have a collection with stories about how the stamps ended up in their current condition. |

I could not think how anybody would want that lot . It is no fun to work on it ,just depressed going thru it and that would make me down and out for months . That would be a lot to keep you depressed ,I rather buy a $10.00 mixture box and find a stamp that catalogs $5.00 ,that makes me happy for a few hours , buying a mess and looking thru it is bad memories . |

I agree with postings here.
But at least 2 bidders sure wanted the 'collection'.
Lot sold for 10 times estimate @16,000.00. Must have been something in it beyond photos. |

$16,000 doesn't seem like much of a tragedy BUT I don't have stamp values embroidered onto my brain for easy recall. |

That's a possibility Floortrader.More of a probability is that the album was a scavenged Katrina item, if indeed it did come from New Orleans. Opinion and speculation on my part. mark |

I posted earlier today on my way to church. Thus the brevity. I personally don't believe this stamp album ever saw the inside of a safe. If Rasdale did there due diligence , which I am sure they did, then I am completely wrong. But knowing New Orleans, I can't believe anyone would have a below ground safe, except for an excuse. Having said that I'm aware of the +- 2000 people who died in the flooding. Also the 700- 800 people still missing. And we are concerned over the tragedy of the water ruined stamps? Thus my earlier post. Personally I think these are looted items. From one of the myriad homes flooded by Katrina. Just my opinion. mark |

Collecting used stamps is less risky than mint stamps just in case something like this happened to them. |
