This is a nice little sequence of documents, five annual renewal receipts from the Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Co. for the same life insurance policy, from 1865 through 1869, with the last one bearing an improper/illegal usage of the 1869 2-cent post horse and rider as a revenue stamp.

Life insurance policies during this period were a luxury of the wealthy, nowhere as prevalent as today.
