So these both look to be large numeral, Sc 60. But there is only 1 color listed for that type in the Scott catalog. Sc numbers? The spandrels look different.

your 2nd stamp is from the 1870 issue 10c bistre - yellow
1st stamp 1871-75 issues on tinted paper.

I thought the 1870 issue is with small numerals? These are both large numeral, yes?

My error. yes they are both from the 1871-75 issue.The tinted paper was not always uniform.

Thank you. Guessing that the background changes too? I see the earlier issue has lines - but neither of my two are "lines" like the small numeral ones. Both Sc60? The left one looks like it has been soaked with a stamp that bled red.

Yes, so both are Scott 60. Spandrels on the right one are rougher perhaps due to slight inking differences, maybe just plate wear. Compare the shading dots at the point of the chin, shading below the eye - more dots are missing from the right stamp.

I don't think the spandrels are much if at all different from the previous issue, wavy lines with a few dots between.
