I recently received some cigarette stamps and have been trying to identify exactly what they are. I have borrowed a copy of Springer's 8th edition and found numbers from TA 1 up to TA 351 (series124). A lot of my confusion is where I have seen cigarette stamps identified as, for instance, TA 336a / TA 388a, and I can't locate anything that describes the difference. They both appear to have the black overprint 'series 124' except the 20 which has it inscribed. So bottom line I am looking for information that describes the difference between the TA 334-341 group and the TA 386-397 group.
Eric has put together a Springer Supplement with the new varieties from the National Postal Museum dispersal auction that are not listed in the original catalogues.
From Series 102 through Series 107, the a variety is rouletted 3 ˝; the b variety is rouletted 7, the c variety is imperforate. Beginning with Series 108, the a variety is rouletted 7 and the b variety is imperforate. At the top of each column of my copy of Springer those varieties are listed.
The supplement lists the tobacco products taxpaids for Series 123 through 125 and includes the new listings that appeared in the Smithsonian National Postal Museum deaccession.
