If anyone won items at the Golden Oak sale 47, closed 5/1, did you receive an invoice or any contact at all? It appears that I was high bidder on 2 items but have not received any communication and no replies after reaching out to them directly.

My invoice showed up via email the day after the sale and I paid right away. In the past, I would get shipping confirmation within 2-3 days after the auction ended whether I had paid or not. After waiting several days with no word, I emailed them just to touch base and to make sure we were both on the same page. Their explanation was that this was an unusually large sale for them (which it was) and it was taking a while for them to catch up. My winnings were mailed the next day. Its been long enough now that you should probably contact them. I think their phone number is listed on their website. |

Caspian65, you may unfortunately only be the tie underbidder. I usually get invoices in 1 to 2 days. I bid live with another Canadian company, last week and have been waiting 5 buisness days for that firm to send me my invoice. Looks like I will have to call. |

Did you bid in the live auction or only place what was the high bid at SAN before the live auction started? I've thought I was the winner at a different auction in the past till I realized they did the live portion "after" the SAN bids closed. Totally my fault for not looking at the info closely enough.
Just an idea.
Definitely contact them as they're nice people to deal with. |

Thanks for the replies, I'll give them a ring.
I show as high bidder on SAN and also on the GOOA website under 'My Bids' |

If they are sending invoices out by email as noted by others on this thread may I suggest you check your spam file or filter? |

No1philatelist: Was that with Longley Auctions? I've been waiting for an invoice from them as well and sent them an email a few days ago but never received a reply. If so, if you wouldn't mind, post what they say to you when you call. This was my first time bidding with them and between how the auction was run (live on SAN with seemingly endless issues) and their lack of response, it may have been my last. |

Yes, it was Longley auctions. It was his first time using the San network for live bidding and they are in the learning phase. I have not called as of yet, but do figure that they are still becoming educated in how it all comes together, as well as the fact that he did state it was his largest to date, and they will have growing pains. Gather it up by bidder#, package, weigh and enter it into postal system to get shipping cost, than tally totals and send invoices. Its a lot of work for a small outfit. I like to get my items quickly also, but dont mind waiting, as it is a reputable outfit. You have so many days from receipt of invoice to pay, and they have to allow for any delays on their end. I am sure it will get quicker next time around. It will not stop me from buying something I wanted, even if they are not " speedy on the spot"
You have a 25% exchange rate advantage to me. My cost plus 18% fee + 15% HST which is comprised of 5%GST + 10% provincial tax. Your cost + 18% fee + 5% gst. But then again you probaby pay state tax on top of that ? Do you have to pay customs and handling fee also?
Mike Edit: spelling correction

Mike, I don't buy often from Canada (even with the favorable exchange rate) and in the past, usually from Sparks Auctions, and I've never been asked to pay customs fees of any sort. Most of these were larger lots and there was never an issue of customs holding anything up. With Longley, speed wasn't my issue. It was more to do with how disorganized they seemed to be. As the auction went on, it got old having to refresh every time the audio crapped out and there were endless delays. But, yeah, I'll throw them some leeway since it was their first SAN experience. Cheers, George |

George, have not had any response to my email either. Will call them tomorrow. Wow, your very fortunate in regard to customs, but do they assess your state tax on incoming packages? Any purchase over $20. Cdn incoming by mail gets hit with HST, but the worst part is that the post office hits you with a $10. Cdn handling fee on top of it to collect the tax, even for small tax amounts. Ouch! In regards to the losing of audio, It seems to happen to me often using San with other auction houses as well. I used chrome this last time instead of explorer and had sound the whole time, except when he shut off the mike. Otherwise it was ok. I deal with Sparks and Maresch and Eastern auctions also. Used to bid a lot with Rasdales but with the 25 to 30+% difference and customs, or should I say the charging of the 15% Hst and shipping cost it became unbearable. Actually my last purchase with them, or sort of was about $3500.00 cdn. But for some reason someone put $35000.00 on the customs form and stuck it on the bottom of the heavy torn up box. I talked with customs about it and got sales receipts from Rasdales to show actual purchase value that they did make mistake in amount stated; but customs refused and said I had to pay it all and send in attached copy of attached customs label with explanationns for refund. The copy of the customs form was on bottom and so shredded and copy missing, I had litte document to remit and rather than fight to get my money back, I refused to pay and take package. Rasdales was upset because I would not use UPS as I always used the mail service only, so I ended up with nothing due to their mistake. Unfortunate. Lesson learned? - dont put a customs label on the bottom of a parcel, and make sure amount is correct! Regards, Mike |

State sales tax gets assessed depending on the venue. Some, like eBay, take it out automatically for the buyer and pay the state(s) themselves. The big auction houses generally won't assess it, unless you live in any state where the auction does business, in which case its assessed. If you live in a state not serviced by them, they generally won't add it to your bill, leaving the buyer to deal with it on their end. I've never had sales tax added to the few lots I've bought coming into the U.S. from Canada, or from any other foreign entity. |

Sorry I dragged this thread a bit off . I wonder if the original poster heard anything. As for costs it appears obvious Canadians end up paying substantially more for items. Its no wonder I am usually underbidder. Finally spoke to Bill. He called me back after trying unsucessfully to reach him several times. He said he would get invoices out soon. Busy with other matters. I just wish he had left a notice of delay on his company webpage or facebook page.

What I find interesting is the "off topic" tangential thought that enters our threads. Yes No1 you are off topic, no apology required. You have brought to mind the issues that Canadian friends have buying in the US. Cheers Mark

Just spoke to Bill @ Longley auctions about a BNAPS book order from last month after not receiving replies to emails, and he is indeed a busy fellow at the moment - auction, regular business, heavily involved in CAPEX planning - very friendly & helpful once you got hold of him. |
