This Egyptian revenue stamp was canceled at "EL-MANACHI." But my sources don't turn up any place in Egypt with that Romanized name. Can anyone please help me ID this place of cancel? My thanks in advance for any help.
I don't know how these salt department stamps were used, but that is exactly the point. Since this is not a postage stamp, one shouldn't limit one's thinking of the cancel like a traditional postal cancel - necessarily having a town name, Or canceled at the revenue office rather than the post office. Or even more out of the box, to find a cancel with a business name like a manufacturer, wholesale/retail establishment, user, etc., parallel to U.S. proprietary Battleship stamps of 1898 with the corporate name and a date.
