Straits Settlements Japanese Occupation

Can someone help identify this stamps, It does not seem to be listed in Stanley Gibbons and I suspect it might be a forgery.
It is a KGV 1c black overprinted with what appears to be the type 1 Japanese occupation overprint. Except that this doesn't exist in the catalogue.
Does anyone have any ideas.
I have scanned the actual stamp and a copy of the overprint I think it is. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It would be identical to MALAYA Chop Number 1
Approx 13mm x 19mm
Excepting that has a DOUBLE LINED FRAME
and all corners are sharply bevelled

Engraved? carved in wood, the inner line is much thinner, and sometimes has breaks, and in many cases parts are completely missing.

My guess at the type, would be Type 6, looking at the B and the EP

If PostmasterGS "reveal" can isolate the chop, it would assist the ID

Going by the preface of 1946, the value of the Chop 2 in Black, on the 1c KG6
is £12 and £15
That suggest to me you shall need a certificate

The KGVI 1c black with a black overprint is valued at £400 in the SG catalogue SG J146a but I can't find anywhere where the KGV stamp is overprinted, which is why I wonder if this is genuine.

There are several posts on this forum by folks who collect Japanese Occupation of South-east Asia. There are also some specialized catalogs - maybe you could search this forum?

A King George V wartime overprint is somewhat suspect, especially since the King George VI stamp was issued in 1938.

OURDADSSTAMPS is correct the stamp is too early before 1932 to be included in the Japanese overprints which were done on 1937 stamps in Japanese Occup. of 1942 .

It could also be due to the occupiers not having noticed a difference between the portraits of George V and George VI.

This was a very basic value. You can never rule out that some Japanese commander either found a few stamps in a desk, or in a stamp album. The probability of such a one-off find of a single stamp or a small quantity being 'officially' overprinted would be low. Finding a supply of sheets of this stamp in a post or government office when the George VI issue had been issued on 1 January 1938 is extremely unlikely for such a basic value. The turn over would have been much too high for stocks of such stamps to remain more than four years after it has been replaced.

Also, in my experience, these issues have been widely forged (some very good forgeries), and forgeries outnumber genuine overprints by a wide margin. Caveat emptor!

Yes, all these possibilities have gone through my mind but the most likely is a forgery. That then leaves the question "why would you forge a stamp that is so obviously wrong?"
Assuming it has no value it would be nice to pass this on to a specialist collector so that they could have it for novelty value.

If I had to speculate and the forger indeed wanted to defraud collectors instead of just creating phantasy items, maybe that answer has been given already
