French inventor Emile Baudot invented the 5-digit teleprinter code in 1870. The code greatly increased and simplified data transmission, allowing data to be transmitted over a single wire.


The initials of the Institute Jožef Stefan, the leading Slovenian scientific research institute, are written in Baudot code.

On the postmark issued to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the telegraph in Muta, a town in Slovenia, the number 120 is written in Morse code.
