How about to view stamps with Morse codes and/or keypunched tapes? This topic is suggested by rod222 on "Telegraph Insulators on Stamps" thread, and now opened its branch. < Morse codes and keypunched tapes > The combination of lines and dots catches my eyes - maybe because they represent the physicality of human hands? I still prefer to type on keyboard than the phone monitor. And my mum was a teenage keypuncher in 1955, when Mazda car factory started to introduce the latest technology then. My first stamp here shows four appearances of Morse codes (top frame is "cable receiving", left is "radio receiving, right is "sending" and the bottom is "printed sending"), and saying "International Electrical Anniversary" - more or less, and a Telegraph key with early transistor is pictured. Japan 13 October 1954 / 75th Anniversary of Admission to ITU / design: Yutaka Yoshida, engrave: Tsuneo Kasano With your contributions, I hope we will find out a trend on those as a part of the telecommunication history. Please DO post what you find!! For young people who are puzzled; Morse Code / https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morse_codeKeypunch / https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keypunch

WWII patriotic meters with the Morse code V in the slogan slug, although some quite small: Different colors and indicia designs: (All cropped from full envelopes.) Two slightly different printings of unprocessed-but-mailed V-mail forms. The first with the uncommon free frank adhesive sent from Algeria. The second mailed November 13, 1945, after the discontinuance of microfilming on November 1, 1945. |

Always glad to see new thread! Have several stamps from USA, Israel, Mongolia and Laos to show. Here are two from the USA which Rod posted earlier: Samuel Morse, issued by USA in 1940: The 100th anniversary of the first telegraph transmitted message, issued by USA on May 24, 1944: |

Modern Communications...it still boggles my mind. I can win a bid, from a dealer in North America, in a fraction of a second from Australia. How I can copy images of >400,000 stamps, in just 3 hours. How I can have an Entire Billigs discrete volume, in just a few magabytes, and search every instance in that volume of any word (text string) in seconds. XYPlorer searched my 400,000 stamps, and returned 70 "Morse" stamps in less than 2 seconds. (Win7) Google 2009 Samuel Morse's Birthday (27th April) |

You guys are amazing!!! This thread already has quite a bit of materials on its second day - thank you all for your support!! Parcelpostguy - I love all three stamps! and I have coloured version of the first one, so posting here. The Morse code under the radio wave says ITU! Thank you for featuring the details. Rod - of course, the postmark is the territory for Morse code... I didn't think about that. And already you featured more than 20 Mr. Morse from youth to beardy later years!! It is so funny that you have smuggled Inspector Morse within and the perforation in Morse code is an excellent one! And well, you have 50 more "Morse" stamps out of your 400,000 pieces to show us... John Becker - Morse code V from WWII - of course, that the fastest method of communication then, must be spread with visible V. I wonder how common to read the code among with non military people then - and now? It would be great if I have skill to read all on stamps. Eli - thanks for the beautiful set as usual, from US and Laos! and looking forward to see further!! I love the keypunched tape flying around the globe. |

I started to recognise bar, dot and tiny spaces between them. Well, if I read the Swiss 1952 stamp code; from left to right: H E L V E T I A (of course!) from upper top to right middle: P T T P T T... Power To The People?? This helped me; Thanks Rod, for 2 beautiful Slania stamps! One I have, but wasn't aware about the code. |
