This is the first time ever I see this type of Netherlands-Indies cancellation.
Was it intended with special meaning: commemoration, function, whatever?
Any ideas or gossip appreciated in advance.

Tony:

You've got the bottom of a standard two-ring circular cancel. Along the top is the town name. The Xs are to fill in the space, I guess.

I agree with David,
the little stars (fleurons) are always a mystery,
either there as a standard design concept, or to offer
support and rigidity. who knows?

Yes, David, very nice indeed,
to think ten years ago, when I began collecting I would have soaked
those babies.
You would have been quite welcome to have them, it is not
a country I collect per se, but being a WW collector
after scanning, I store all the items in crates, and I have
absolutely no idea where they are.

However, I can give you an image you may like,
(if you don't already have it)
of his nibs, stamp collecting:
acknowledgement: Stamp Collecting L&NM williams circa 1954

Wow!! Great picture. Do you have it as a magazine article, or what?

No David, it is the frontispiece (sp?)
of a hard bound edition.
I have it as L&NM Williams, but I think it is an error of mine,
from what I recall, it is a small green book by Fred Melville,
I'll have a reconnoitre amongst the bookshelves this weekend
and get back to you.
I thought you would like it. (Ahem! use the tongs your majesty :)

Hmm was a little green book..by Williams 1950
and no, not stolen I buy these from local charity
book sales in Como, usually around $1 each

Hi David. I thought you may like it. KGV covers are one of my areas, so the answer is a resounding yes!

Drop me a line.
