I have a booklet of 2276a / BK156, which, I gather, was made from sheet stamps. My booklet does not have a plate number, which does not seem to be addressed in my Durland Standard Plate Number catalogue. Where I would expect to see a plate number, it has "USE CORRECT ZIP CODE". Is this common? Because it is made from sheets, did I just happen to get the strips that do not have a plate number?

Thanks/

Alan B

The plate number and the Zip Code are equally common. The "Booklet Panes and Covers" section in the back of the Scott U.S. Specialized catalog describes the manufacture of this particular booklet - yes, from the same printing layout as sheets, but perforated and cut differently, leaving the left selvage. Thus the remaining selvage/tab adhering the pane to the cover will have various imprints of a plate number, zip code ad, bars, or nothing. Durland will only be concerned with the plate numbered pane and ignore the rest. A quick survey of panes on ebay shows the different tabs available.
