Using Hinges On Mounts

I use Scott Specialty blank pages for my One-Cent Franklin collection with Showgard black mounts. I attach them to the pages with Dennison hinges. That way I can always rearrange items on the page, as well as save the expensive pages themselves for reuse.

Unless things have changed in very recent years, there actually is at least one album manufacturer whose hingeless albums have black (not clear) mounts: Stanley Gibbons, for their Windsor albums. (In this case, there's no information under each mount to be obscured, because the facing page has it.) But I've noted that some other manufacturers -- Schaubek comes to mind -- do often put identifying information (including, for example, differing perforation measurements for face-same stamps) in the stamp spaces, as opposed to above a group of spaces. Collector-applied black mounts may "permanently" obscure that information, (And even with clear mounts, you may have to take the stamp out to see the information underneath. Schaubek uses split-back mounts, which doesn't -- in my personal view -- make this any easier.)
