I have both Scott and SG catalogues but I would like to find more detail. Any advise on catalogues or literature that would support a study of early South Australia State?

Brusden White has been recommended by the forum in the past, is that the best going?

Thanks.

You'll need Gibbons specialised 1993
and Brusden White 2004 "Kangaroos and Early Federal Period"
(Expensive and highly sought after)

I have no specialists catalogues, or come across any, thus far.

Burrus 28 Nov 62 auction Catalogue South Aust rarities

South Australia Numeral cancellations Campbell / Pearce
(Royal Phil soc of Victoria)

Sundry bits from my folders, may be of use?

Scott Type A6

Rod, thank you. Good information. Now I'm on the hunt for catalogues.

There's an 11th (2018) edition of Gibbons - also with a digital version.

Catalogues are covered above with the exception of an older publication that provides excellent coverage of proofs and similar:

Lowe, Robson (ed.) The Encyclopaedia of British Empire Postage Stamps. Volume IV, The Empire in Australasia, Robson Lowe Ltd., London, 1962.

Handbooks are your next step if you want to drill down further.

One to track down (I haven't managed to source a copy) is:

James, N.R. (ed.) The Postage Stamps of South Australia, Philatelic Society of South Australia, Adelaide, 1949.

There are a number of monograph studies that have been published on individual issues or series of stamps. The so-called "Long Tom" issues have been the subject of several great books.

The Departmental overprints are the subject of another excellent publication, The Departmental Stamps of South Australia, by A.R. Butler, published by the RPSL.

For the Departmental stamps, have a look at the Don Pearce auction here:
