I really wanted the illustrated item but sadly I undervalued it in my ebay bidding. While I have several interesting First Lady free franks I don't chase them generally but with most things philatelic, if I have not seen it before I often try to purchase it when I do.

Free franks are commonly found it two versions, actually signed and with preprinted signature. This item, for me, expanded the version to three. It is the first metered printed signature I have seen. I trust there are others from Mrs. Eisenhower. Perhaps some members here can show metered free franks from other first ladies, former presidents or other with a free frank privileged.

Note the auxiliary marking which was added by I don't know who, the sender or the USPS.

I have two examples of Jackelyn Kennedy's free frank on registered covers. Are any of your other first lady covers registered? Please show an image if you can.

None I have seen are registered. I helped keep together a pair of covers Mrs. Roosevelt free frank covers (seen once in The American Philatelist) for which the free franked letter from the White House explained left behind earrings were being returned and the package, free fracked for postage but a 10 cent Prexie added to cover the Insurance Fee. was to get the the item at cost after the exhibitor was done, but as is often the case, those agreements are forgotten when the potential $$$ blinds the person to the agreement and erases the memory of same. Lot a few items to that person as well as to another. Thus I never will do so again.

Herbert Hoover used a meter as ex-president, as did Dwight Eisenhower if memory serves.
