Is anyone able to explain, what is happening here.

Adverts from ebay search result , then the price when clicked.

Did it get you to click? Was it 'as advertised'? Yes? No?? Yeah, it's click-bait. Certainly with the 2nd one - With the B-I-N price of $89.50, it was NEVER selling for $8, as the ad implies. Ditto for the first one, with a starting bid of $19.94.

I wonder if they could be taken to court for false advertising. What a dirty steaming pile of trickery.

I have an ongoing ebay search, for Postage stamp catalogues.
So the selection of catalogues arrive in my email from ebay
They are all advertised as $8 or buy now at $8

This has happened before.

I guess I need to contact ebay complaints and see what they suggest.

I'll post any response

This is weird… I have a similar search on both ebay.ca and Kijiji (our version of Gumtree) and this has never happened.

The real price of the CI/IoM catalogue would take you a fair way to acquiring a decent CI collection these days!

I have never seen this before, but looks like ebay bug (or God forbid, feature). I don't think ebay offers sellers ability to bait & switch for extra fee. I think that is literally illegal in most jurisdictions It's also quite probable whatever is going on here is region specific.

FYI
My daily post from ebay with catalogues, arrived, and all genuine prices
shown.
As you say possibly just a glitch somewhere.
I'll keep you posted

True.
I avoid that problem, by buying just Scott tear sheets from Chirok
around $14 for smaller entities
Scan and OCR
