The Royal Yacht "Britannia".
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One of the many modes of transportation used for Royal visits by the Queen during her reign was the royal yacht 'Britannia', the ship was in service from 1954 until 1997, after which she was retired from service and is now permanently berthed in Leith (Edinburgh) Scotland as a visitor attraction.
A location and items on following stamps were in public view today at the broadcasted funeral - Westminster Abbey for the first ceremony, Crown, Orb (globe shape with cross on its top) and Sceptre (stick with decoration, on the left) on second stamp - I couldn't find the name of another stick on the right...
Tokelau
1978 / Silver Anniversary of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II
70 GLORIOUS YEARS.
The object on the right Tom, that you was not sure of on the second stamp is the
sceptre with dove.
The Crown Jewels comprise 142 objects, which are permanently set with 23,578 precious and semi-precious stones and are seen by around 2.5 million visitors every year.
I find no stamp yet issued to post here to honor Queen Elizabeth's greatest accomplishment. I would welcome such design.
Quote:
...If we all go forward together with an unwavering faith, a high courage, and a quiet heart, we shall be able to make of this ancient commonwealth, which we all love so dearly, an even grander thing - more free, more prosperous, more happy and a more powerful influence for good in the world - than it has been in the greatest days of our forefathers.
To accomplish that we must give nothing less than the whole of ourselves. There is a motto which has been borne by many of my ancestors - a noble motto, "I serve". Those words were an inspiration to many bygone heirs to the Throne when they made their knightly dedication as they came to manhood. I cannot do quite as they did.
But through the inventions of science I can do what was not possible for any of them. I can make my solemn act of dedication with a whole Empire listening. I should like to make that dedication now. It is very simple.
I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.
But I shall not have strength to carry out this resolution alone unless you join in it with me, as I now invite you to do: I know that your support will be unfailingly given. God help me to make good my vow, and God bless all of you who are willing to share in it.
Big words and an even larger promise from a 21 year old woman; a promise likely few at the time honestly believed would be carried out. But of course even at the age of 21 she underestimated herself. Queen Elizabeth II exceeded the promise by ten days, ten days while she provided service leading all who needed it, in mourning the loss of her Queenly earthly guidance.
tomonakaazu - on the Tokelau 15c stamp, on the left is the sceptre known as the Sceptre with the Cross, and on the right is the Sceptre with the Dove (also known as the Rod of Equity and Mercy).
The Sceptre with the Cross was made for Charles II. You can see them both more clearly on Wilding mad's last picture of the Crown jewels.
70 GLORIOUS YEARS.
<><><><><><><><><><
Queen Elizabeth II sat for more than 200 official portraits throughout her reign, working with artists using techniques ranging from Renaissance-style painting to holographic photography, one of them being the later controversial one painted by Rolf Harris in June of 2005, just a year prior to her 80th birthday.
This is the sitting in question.
