Hey Puzzler, here's what I've got so far. they've all been bought in Montréal, Québec (some in Longueuil just across the bridge but I don't know wich ones). None have the "Mysterious" extra ink in the back and all the numbers are in the lower part of the selvedge (at different heights but all in the lower part)

blue 2 with serial 008273, 008272, 001305
blank with serial 024234, 026542, 026543
blue 1 with a dark black marking on cover without serial
and obviously some blue 1 and 2 without markings and serial

OK, thanks. I will add them in.

Hmmm, maybe I should start a new list with just the black marks? I will leave that for now as that is hard to tell due to the variation between light, very light, non-existent almost, medium and dark. Still, it is an important feature I think.

Added new numbers in to list on page 5 page 1.Total 162 numbers now.

I wonder what the booklets will be in the Quarterly stamp packs put out by Canada Post. They might just have the stamps with no selvedge. For this issue they should leave the selvedge on.

I gor distracted by other stamps actually. The nice weather and also lack of money are factors too.

I wish we had more input from other provinces.

I think that stamp clubs are generally closed for the summer also. The fall should show a resurgence hopefully (with me too).

I should look around on teh net and see what others ahve to say.

Just popped into ebay and saw that there are 16 booklets for sale plus 8 from "international sellers" - total 24. In middle of painting so didn't check to see if they are specifying variation.

One seller at least states that they are a variety and tells the cylinder number and serial/control number.

I have sent him an email (and others emails too) to see if any want to share numbers. One does, so far, anyway. I looked back through the 2 weeks previous to now to see what sold also and one 6-digit and cylinder number combo sold for $28.

Once the word is out folks are trying to complete their collections of these.

And that is just some of the varieties perhaps. Selvedge widths are still pending investigation and if and what position, up and down, the numbers are appearing, perhaps there is a pattern there also.

What would a 'full' collection consist of anyway?

One of each of the following (and perhaps more):
Blank selvedge (and 6.4,8.0,9.5 mm left selvedge)
Counting Tab on front/back of booklet (with/without numbers)
6-digit serial/control number only
Blue 1 cylinder number alone
Blue 1 with a 6-digit number
Blue 2 alone
Blue 2 with a 6-digit number

Possible variations on a theme are to collect one of the 6-digit numbers from each of the 100,000's grouping, example a 000101, a 103,789, a 289,888, etc up to 999,999, so 10 booklets.

I have begun watching ebay auctions to see if I can 'catch' any numbers floating past in the stream of sales and add them in to our list. I ask sellers if they want to share (and join here also).

I need to modify the list of numbers as it is getting a bit big now. Perhaps I will also save a database file as an attachment here, if that is possible. It is only 18.5 KB in size now with 156 numbers.

Anyone order any from the Canada Post Philatelic Centre yet? Or plan to? I am curious to see if they have any numbers and which they might be.

Among the mathematical (distribution?) geniuses here have any of you come up with an hypothesis suggesting how these booklets were distributed across the country?

A cursory glance doesn't suggest anything to me.

I think we need more data to determine a pattern of printing and distribution, if one exists.

From the latest table we have:

Total Recorded: 162
Cylinder 1 : 21 [1 out of every 8]
Cylinder 2 : 58 [1 out of every 3]
No Cylinder: 83 [1 out of every 2]

Those totals of course do not include booklets that have NO control number.

To add to the chaos the two booklets with control numbers 092473 and 092474 Cylinder 2 were previously found in Halifax NS, and 092475, 092476, and 092477 were found in Stratford, ON.

I have updated my Excel sheet which can be down loaded:
