Spock, the booklets without any numbers are the most common.

Here is the Math based on the latest data in Puzzlers table in the first post:

275,000 booklets released

192,500 have blank margins
27,500 have cylinder 1 (1 out of 10 according to Canada Post)
27,500 have cylinder 2 (1 out of 10 according to Canada Post)
27,500 have serial numbers (1 out of 10 according to Canada Post)

13,750 have serial numbers and no cylinder numbers (50%)
9,625 have serial number and have cylinder 2 (35%)
4,125 have serial number and have cylinder 1 (15%)

Numbers have been rounded to the nearest percent.

The totals of Serial/Cylinder combos are based on the percentage of existing numbers as reported in the table.

In theory, the serial numbers should be between 1 and 27,500 but the are between 1 and 100,000. No doubt the press printing the serial numbers stopped at various times, and did not resume right after the previous number. For instance, no booklet has yet been reported with a serial number between 054061 and 089369, a gap of 35,308. This is by far the biggest gap. The next highest 6,904.

We still do not know why 1's are rarer than 2,s. I doubt there are gobs of unreported 1's, the law of averages should prevent that.

Keep the data coming in - Canadian lurkers, please sign up and report your serial numbers!

One thought I just had (I can only have one at a time) is the stamps on the first day covers.

I found my Canada Post Details magazine (April-June 2010) and now have a question.

Subscribe (or unsubscribe and save a tree) for free to Collections and Details at, or see them online also at: http://www.canadapost.ca/cpo/mc/per...ications.jsf

It says that the stamps for the OFDCs (Official first day covers) were printed by Lowe-Martin in Canada, not by Sweden Post. But should this quantity be included within the total quantity printed? I think it should as they do not make any differentiation between the printers in the total number printed, just saying that some were printed by different printers.

So this means that some of the stamps were used on the FDCs.
=Canadian FDC (2 stamps) 19,000 covers issued = 38,000 stamps.
=Canada / Sweden joint FDC (2 stamps each)) 16,000 covers issued = 32,000 stamps.
=Sweden / Canada joint FDC (4 Swedish stamps, 2 Canadian stamps) (unknown quantity) covers issued = ?? stamps.
=Sweden Collectors Sheet = (4 Swedish stamps, 2 Canadian stamps)(unknown quantity) sheets issued = ?? stamps

38,000
32,000
??,???
??,???
72,000 ++ total stamps

which should be deducted from the quantity available to record.

Puzzler, the FDC ENVELOPE was printed by Lowe-Martin, NOT the stamps.

Oh, is that what it meant? I jumped to conclusions. Sorry all.

But the quantities of stamps used are still relevant though.

You are right about the quantities Puzzler. 70,000 stamps, which is 8,750 booklets, were use on the Canadian FDC's. Perhaps many of those were serial numbers plus cylinder 1...

I just emailed Sweden Post and asked them about the quantities issued of the remaining items. Also about how do they do the control (serial) numbers and cylinder numbers and if the souvenir shhets were printed along with the stamp booklets and so may have used up some of the numbers.

Not sure if they know all the answers but I will try to follow up on whatever they give me and post their response here also.

No replay from Sweden Post yet (maybe they have a long weekend or only work 4 days a week or something civilized).

But here is a nice cancel on a small cover I received recently. It has the POCON number in the cancel too. Canada Post should change All their rectangular POCON cancellers to circular ones. Hint hint nudge nudge . . .

About a week ago a booklet with a black mark + cylinder 2 sold on ebay for 200$+. Today a black mark with cylinder 1 reached a 80$. Not nearly as high as the other one, but still impressive for a 5$ booklet
