I'm new to stamp collecting and starting to get in to plate blocks. I, like many others, inherited a collection of plate blocks.

I've read that the catalog to get is Durland's. For those that have used the catalog for some time, which binding do you prefer (the spiral or perfect bound)?

Welcome to the forum. This is really a personal thing - that is why there is a choice. If you prefer a book to lay flat you might want the spiral binding!

Love the spiral. Sturdy and lays flat.

Spiral, lays flat as noted above but also folds back and lays flat. This allow less hogging of desk space when using it.

IMHO today, anyone beginning to collect plates seriously deserves a free Durland as a reward for the good for the hobby endeavor.

No, I already donated a payment for my working copy.

I can propose you for USSS Membership and that would get you a discounted price.

Edit:

When you get to 50 quality posts and can send emails to other SFC members, you can send me your name and address and I will mail you my 2008 copy as a gift. Mine is spiral, a perfect bound is $24.95 +$4 S&H on ebay. If Don is in a good mood, he may (no pressure, promises or words into Don's mouth) act as a go between before 50 posts.

There is a free US Plate Number Identifier here https://stampsmarter.org/features/P...ockHome.html
It also offers a 'reverse' plate number lookup, allowing you to enter the plate number and it will return the catalog number (try that with a Durland!). It does not list 'values' but it is fairly easy top look these up in past auction rsults.

First and foremost, I big "thank you" for all the helpful comments. I'm glad I stumbled on this forum, I look forward to speaking with you all more on future topics!

Parcelpostguy - very generous offer, I'd greatly appreciate your old copy if you're no longer using it. Can't thank you enough. I'll try to get in contact with Don to see if I can get in touch with you. Thanks again.

Also, Don - thank you for recommending stamp smarter. I'll check out the site!

I will keep an eye out for the contact. Please allow me some leeway in response time as distractions occur in this household of three as we help Ms. Cancer out the door to return to a pleasant healthy household of two. She seems to have left but now for the next 6-7 months we need to be sweeping out the door the mud she tracked in.

Don, the sending from yesterday was there today. See quote. The sending from today was as well. So, yes, I checked that email account, found the information and sent an email to the OP.

So I am getting a 2008 Durland out of the stack. Now if I can offload a 2019 Scott Vol. 2B, CYP-F, I likely would do it for media postage and a few more mint stamps for later postage use. (yes I know I can list it in the correct section if motivated). But it is more fun to see who reads this thread, isn't it?.

Edit: Jleb1979 spoke for the Vol. 2B.
