This was a popular thing for collectors to do at the time, there are a bunch around. Another popular idea was mixing and matching stamp designs; for example putting a 554 vignette on a 552 stamp and vice versa and then mailing it. As stated above, totally philatelic but they are popular with some collectors. |

And here is one just like your cover that also sold for a few dollars. A bit hard to believe that a legitimate company usage would produce the exact same cover a few days apart (typing in the 'No 1/2 cent stamp" in the exact same position) and that the Adlerika Company would stamp the receiving mark in the exact same place. |

If the sender did this once out of necessity it would be creative and resourceful. Doing it many times is just a way of getting your kicks. Like this guy. He could have been sending them to himself. |

Someone in my club buys up all those US 'gold' stamped covers, removes the 'gold' stamps and mounts them in a Scott National album. To be honest, the presentation is very nice mounted that way. And he has told me that of all his albums, this is the one that impresses people the most when they come over to his house. <shrugs>
I support folks collecting whatever they want, but the OP asked about market value and the market value of his cover is a few dollars. Don |

If you look at the auction listing, it shows quite an interesting array of philatelic and fantasy. Some are quite colorful. Would be nice to i.d. a legit nonphilatelic usage. Prices are what looks like what someone was willing to pay. (Collectors are an odd bunch) pat |

The example that brought $130 had a PF cert from 1980; the rate started the previous day. So it had a history to it, however philatelic. Most of the other lots were of groups of covers. |
