Dipping it in watermark fluid usually helps bring out the grill and makes it easier to identify. |

Great! I thought about that before posting. Seemed like getting it wet (the safe way) will bring out those little grooves. Next step is to get a hold of some! |

Excellent posts Parcelpostguy! I can clearly see with the naked eye how the lines flow horizontally on the "Z" as opposed to vertically on the others. I actually just discovered that the 15 cent has a Z grill version, as it isn't mentioned on Stampworld! |

Most likely an 'F' grill, as that is the most common with the thin paper variety. |

There are only two other examples of the 15c "Z" grill are recorded (2013 auction price $2,000,000.) https://stampsmarter.org/learning/I...8Grills.htmlWhat do you think the odds might be that you just found another one? revcollector, is the pressure used to stamp a grill another determining factor of what type it is? May be hard to tell from this battered paper. The album I pulled it from labeled it as a #77, so the original collector must have missed the grill because other grilled pieces are labeled properly. |

Quote: revcollector, is the pressure used to stamp a grill another determining factor of what type it is? Not specifically. But some grills do tend to be impressed more strongly then others. In my experience, Z grills tend to show up pretty well most of the time. Obviously grills do get pressed out sometimes. |
