I don't tink tath day had stamps with such high value back then. Could it be a stamp made for some type of advertising purposes ?

Who knows? Maybe for a better fit in an album? I've seen very expensive souvenir sheets get trimmed for that reason. In the end, Doesn't matter.

Catalogues price them individually, as well as within the strip. I think I've got some of them individually on cover.

It's not going to be a easy task to sell such 25 franc "essay" even at ebay,but as Cjd said "raritie"sounds and sales much better there .

Unfortunately, this happens more often with larger pieces than you might think. If parts get creased or otherwise damaged, then at least some of it can be saved. Just a guess here.

With something like this, I've also seen each stamp and label mounted separately in order to fit an album. There's also been things like the 1930s Canada pairs imperf between that got miscut by someone who went brain dead and made pairs by cutting through the imperf sides. Stuff happens.
