For anyone who is feeling guilty about the time and money you have spent on stamps…..
The most powerful RC airplane, model data: WingSpan: 4 meter Lenght: 10 meter Height: 1.85 meter Weight: 149 Kg Turbine: 4x JetCat P300 Pro Fuel Tanks Capacity: 24 liters
That was very cool. Reminded me of when I was a kid and had that two-piece balsa wood airplane. On a good day I could throw it and it might go 15 feet.
Quote: Very cool. Wonder how some of the higher end military drones compare
None of those hold a candle to the current USAF X-37B drone. It sixth mission lasted 908 days and likely set other records not disclosed due to secrecy classification.
Cool toy in the OP video.
Speaking of toys, here is one, live steam, that is more expensive as well as more complected to build, operate, maintain and move. Curb weight is a bit more than 149kg (327.8 pounds) at a round 3000 lbs (1363.6kg). Originally used in Oregon for decades on 7.5 inch gauge track, bit was purchased and shipped to New Zealand and remachined to 7.25 gauge. The real version runs on 56.5 inch standard gauge track weighs about 550 tons (1,100,000lbs or 500,000kg) pushing 130 feet in length.
As a train buff, the video that parcelpostguy posted really gets my blood pumping!! The original, full-scale version still runs, although it is a museum piece. As an aerospace employee, the SST model is interesting, too. It is amazing what the hobby of RC planes has produced over the last few years. As a professional in the business, I can state with some authority that the model doesn't even begin to approach what the military drones can do.
When I was stationed in Germany, I used to love to watch these exhibitions/competitions. I assume this one was in Switzerland (too early to have the sound on here). The Europeans really know how to organize clubs, no matter what the hobby is (RC modeling, model railroading - you name it).
When I was a kid, I used to pick up model railroading magazines and make imaginary layouts in my head or sketch them on paper. Money to start actually doing it was the rub. I almost got a Z gauge suitcase layout (space limitations) but chose a Harris Statesman stamp album instead.
