Quote: Wizard wants $42/100 for Lighthouse brand, that seems a little high to me, is that about right? You can shop around but that is a bit lower than the Lighthouse direct price. Or you can get 100 Safe cards for about $25. https://www.ihobb.com/p/SA741SP.html |

Quote: inserting the quote between the two "quote" words. I must be doing something wrong then. Yes you are. In every instance you appear to be hilighting the first bracket or the backslash of the end-quote command as you try to paste and are overwriting it, thus it disappears when you "paste" the text you want to insert. It is an easy error to make aiming for the small space between the start and end brackets. I have made the error too. You may find it helpful the insert the quote command, then enter a couple of spaces to provide a wider target to aim your paste command at, then delete the spaces if you want. Bottom line, the start-quote and end-quote commands must remain intact for it to work. Secondly, check your work by inspecting each post as soon as you make it. If there is an error, go back and edit it asap. |

Quote: I loathe cardboard cards. Not long ago a seller sent me a set of stamps in a cardboard card and the cardboard absorbed moisture in shipping and they all stuck to the card. It ruined them. rogdcam: The cardboard ones (elbe-type/style) failed my ph pen test as well - they are acidic. Not sure about the very latest ones, though. I assume they would fail as well. I have never had any problems with quality dealer approval cards (such as the ones you and I mentioned), particularly those also placed into a glassine or acetate insert. John |

For the OP:
Another, more economical possibility would be to use HECO 107 cards:
Card Size: 5-3/4 x 3-1/4" Pocket size: 4-7/8" x 2-5/16"
Less than 10 cents apiece when bought by the 1000. Red boxes for storage run in the $10-$15 range.
Available in either black or white background.
Not sure the dimensions fit your requirements, width-wise. Just another possibility to consider.

It must be said that small stock-cards with card backs are widely used in the philatelic world without problems. Difficulties arise, as with any storage method, from poor handling of stamps, adverse humidity etc. The fanciest accessories won't save you from bad housekeeping. |

I guess it comes down to risk tolerance and finances.
Have to say that if the seller who shipped me the stamps that were ruined had used the 25 cent card instead of the 10 cent card that $150 set of stamps would be in an album instead of the trash. That is a delta of 15 cents. I mean, really….. |

Oh brother, it actually worked this time! You were right, that's what I must have been doing, but I guess I didn't notice it. |

Quote:Or you can get 100 Safe cards for about $25. https://www.ihobb.com/p/SA741SP.html How high is the pocket on those cards? Looks like they are available with an extra protective sleeve also. Would that be like a flap of plastic hanging down from the top which covers the whole card then? |

It looks like the SAFE cards would work better because the pocket size would accomodate the newer convertible booklets of stamps which are a bit wider than the traditional booklet pane. The height of the pocket is taller also which would allow more flexibility for storing other kinds of stamps too.
The only thing I wish I could do is have a place to write a little bit of information on the front of the card, like Scott#, price paid, or whatever else. I guess you could put a small sticker on the face of the card and put some information on it.

Type your information on a sheet of paper, cut it out, and insert it into the pocket |

I used these type labels for a lot of stuff around my stamp room and the house (from a previous post). Brother P-touch PT-D600 PC-Connectable Label MakerI recommend buying this $59.95 label printer from NewEgg on ebay, here is link 381136194700It connects to your computer (if desired) via USB (plug and play), makes good looking and inexpensive labels for any stamp album. Is also useful for labeling things around the house. (My wife's spice rack needed some labeling help and this worked great, same for my tool box in the garage.) It is powered via an external power supply (included) or you can use batteries. Since it has a display and can be powered by batteries, you can print label anywhere if desired (although I find myself mostly connecting to the PC and using the application software). It supports any font. You can buy label stock, from Brother or countless third parties on Amazon, in endless amounts of colors including transparent background. The gold on transparent label stock is a good solution for Scott National albums as shown here Labels can include graphics, like my HPO Bus shown below, if desired. Don |
