Hi!

Still learning to navigate this great site! I apologize for any etiquette mistake I may commit!

I need help with this stamp! I can't read the letters on the bottom left side and it doesn't match any of the 66 Towers of 6 stars stamps that I have identified for that Europa 2000 series!

Thanks in advance! Alie

I don't recognized these letters as any country I'm familiar with! Is it a fake one, a cinderella, or a promotional item? I've had it for a couple of years now and I haven't come across anything yet to help me solve that mystery to me!!

The stamp is a fraud. The design (from a legit issue) was copied in the UK by scammers. Transnistria isn't recognized by the UN, UPU, or anyone else for that matter. Why the UK printers picked it may be partly political (anti-Moldovan), or maybe as a way to cash in since so many countries issued that design.

You have a stamp from from the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR as abbreviated here in Cyrillic) also known as Transnistria. It is a de facto independent country that broke away from Moldova with a resultant war. You probably did not hear about it since the Kardashians were doing something more important.

You will not find these issues in any catalog currently. Their stamps are not considered legal by Moldova and most countries but in reality, Transnistrian mail to foreign destinations other than neighboring Russia are sent on through Moldova with Moldovan postage added. So, real country, real stamps by my figuring. If Katanga made it to the Scott catalog with genuine proven usage abroad known for some time, this might make it in there in, oh, twenty years or so.

PMR/Transnistria is an interesting place with a few travelers reporting their experiences on YouTube. It's not a wealthy place; their coins are colorful plastic shapes.

The problem is that the usual gang of bogus stamp printers like those formerly controlled by Feigenbaum are also printing PMR fakes. This one looks legitimate by cancel but the design has apparently been used by one of the fakers with a large "PMR" in the lower left corner instead. Basically, if an issue is overly topical and issued in sheetlets or souvenir sheets, it's likely a bogus issue.

Thank you all for your input! You people are awesome! I am learning so much! I will educate myself more about this tiny part of the world.

Luckily I guess, I haven't had time for the Kardashians yet. Might be why I'd rather collect stamps instead.

I salute you for your interest. Just don't rely on Wikipedia.

There are a bunch of others in Eastern Europe that are in the same state of limbo, not generally recognized and not catalog-listed. You have your work cut out to separate legitimate issues from bogus. There was a Ukrainian site that sold genuine issues of the region. I had short articles on the various entities with genuine and bogus issues on Miraheze, but one of their cloud servers crashed that also had their backup (dumb!), and all that has disappeared. Data recovery is ongoing but may not happen for a long time if at all. Meanwhile, if you find something similar, post it here on SCF.

The inscription 'EUROPA' is a sign that it is bogus. Contrary to the listing shown, it is not a 'CEPT' issue. Since 1993, the common European stamp issues have been organised by PostEurope and no longer by CEPT. But since it is not a member of either, it is completely bogus.

Transnistria is not a member. It is not included in the programme. In Europe, only Russia recognises it. There are ca. 15,000 Russian troops occupying this part of Moldova. One of the objectives of the Russian invasion of Ukraine was to link it with Russia over land.

Yes, it was one of the reasons Russia was so keen to take Odessa.

Earlier this year, we had the odd experience of a "Transnistrian" team from Moldova creating a football shock against Franco's team.

Thank you all for your input on this « stamp ». I've read a lot about Transnistria since the stamp has been identified. I knew that strip existed because I saw it on maps and I was wondering why Russia had even land on that side of Ukraine. But now, I understand much more about it.

Also, thank you for the links! I read the article about the Sherriff football team and I'm still shaking my head in disbelief!!

Bogus or not, I'm keeping that stamp!

For the record
All the stamps of PRIDNESTROVIE

are presented at PMRstamps dot org

However these days we are locked out of that link.

What I love most about this stamp, is that a circus of poodles trained by the guy who has been the main act in Moscow's Adolf-Hitler recital circus and will come up with the biggest nonsense to destabilise Europe issues a bogus stamp that is the epitome of that same united Europe.
