From the museum name, it must be San Gennaro/Saint Januarius, who is always painted wearing gold vestments.

Ah!! I should have picked up on San Gennaro!! (Saint-Janvier to a French speaking person like me!!)

I didn't know that he was mostly represented in golden attire! And by looking at a series of pictures, I also notice vials of blood as apparently, he is the patron saint of blood banks, Naples, and volcanic eruptions.

Again, thank you for steering me in the right direction!

He wasn't a pope ,he was a bishop. The painting shows him as saint to both the Catholic Church and to the Eastern Orthodox Church , gold color dress is more found in the Eastern Orthodox Church.. He was killed before the two church's split.

Explanation of the vials

"San Gennaro is patron saint of Naples, in whose cathedral two ampoules are preserved with a liquid in the solid state, which tradition says was the saint's blood, and that melts three times a year. The name Gennaro is widespread in Campania and goes back to the Latin "Ianuarius" which means "consecrated to the god Janus", generally given to children born in January, the month sacred to the god. His first name was actually Procolus, belonging to the gens (family) Ianuaria. "

Thank you for all this info!

I wasn't sure about keeping this stamp or exchanging it (I really try to avoid accumulating, I only keep what I collect or what I find interesting!)

This San Gennaro bishop stamp, in golden vestments and two vials of blood, has won the privilege to be added next to my St Francis Assisi lot!

(Question as a newbie on this forum: can I add one picture of 5 stamps together like I did or do I have to post one picture for each stamp?)

Of course!
For specific ID requests for close inspection, (Flaws etc) a single stamp is preferred.

Tip: Argentina 1982 5000 Pesos, St Francis Gibbons#1796

St Francis
From "Church Art Stamp Album" Circa 1950

Oooh! Maybe I was able to do this!! (quote!)

I'm doing this from my cell phone. It's 2022 and the internet still doesn't come to my house!! ("They" have been telling us for three years now that it's coming… But it genuinely looks like we will be hooked up by mid-January!!)

I love your Saint François d'Assise stamp! Actually, I'm a bit jealous and envy it!! I've never seen it before!

Alie.
you can find "Church Albums" on ebay, if you place a want "flag" in your search
for Church stamps.
They may be getting expensive now however.

Good luck

Another little gem that I keep (a non-stamp but how could you get rid of this!!?)

In short, St. Anthony Guide: people would write SAG or put a stamp similar to this one on their envelopes to make sure their letters would arrive at their destination! I found this one in my great aunt stamp stash! Look it up, the back story is fascinating!

Another etiquette question: do people here copy general info from the web in their post or do we adhere to some intellectual property law?

Again, a thousand thank you!

Personally,
Always oblige copyright where possible, I use "snippets" as "fair use"
but always include source where possible.

(I believe it also promotes the author's work)

SAG
Auction Reserve was $450 (not mine)
