I am finding it hard to believe that going through a lot that I recently purchased from a not so reputable salesman has unearthed what I believe are numerous 37d Copper Red Small Queens. Perf 12.5. I keep running through the Gambit of proof and all roads keep running back to SC #37d. I am fairly new to the small queens, and in the beginning it was quite overwhelming, in fact I admit I am still completely confused with the myriad of shades just on the 3 cent alone. I would greatly appreciate some feed back on my possibly overzealous and biblically hopeful find.

Well, it is exciting to think you have something unusual! But usually it is not the case :)

But the shade - copper/Indian red - is quite distinctive and 37d was issued in 1870. Search for "37d" on Hipstamp & you can see a few examples.

None of yours look like the proper shade. The last two of yours also have 1897 cancels, so that means they are Sc 41. If you don't have one yet, a Unitrade catalogue is the best starting point when delving into this issue - it has a useful chart for identifying small queens.

Your three-cent stamps likely perf closer to 12.2, may I suggest you recheck them.

There are a few threads here, most in the Canadian Stamps forum, that explore the topic.
