Hi

Just found this in the lot - initially I took it as a duplicate and did not scan.
Now after the tutoring from "guru" went back through the lot again and picked this up.

SG O65 ? I hope

Regards
Thomas

Nice find, Thomas: yes, it should be SG O65.

I'd check the watermark, too, if I were you. It certainly looks like the small umbrella watermarked paper, but the 1 Anna litho was also printed on the sheet watermarked paper. It isn't recorded for the NINE PIES surcharge, but as the basic stamp existed ...

Keeping up the theme, this one just arrived today:

SG 81, and not a lucky find. It was sold at auction as SG 81. Luckily, the auction was in Canada, and I was able to pick it up much more cheaply than if it had been sold in the UK.

Thomas, £120 is probably a fair price - not cheap, but fair. These sheets often have damage to the margins: make sure that all the sheet margins are intact and not folded back or missing.

Geoffrey Flack (http://tibetanpost.com/tpost.php?op=section&id=3) currently has some Cochin sheets for sale. Gibbons do as well, on their Web site.

Good luck! That Sixth Raja set is very interesting. There are lots of plate flaws to be found. The sheet should be very interesting to study.

Well done, Thomas! Between us now, we have the 9 Pies pretty well covered in sheets: I have sheets of the red 6 Pies surcharge, SG 126 and the SERVICE overprint SG O105.

If you find any interesting printing flaws on your sheets, we'll be able to prove them conclusively now!

It does. Gibbons prices it at £60 used (and £300 mint).

Hi Tony
Thanks for the feedback.
Just scanned through and took some snap of parts as below :

Not sure if any can be considered a flaw .
The first one - I was thinking that the "R" in second "THREE PIES" is slightly smaller than the normal ones.

Regards
Thomas

Thomas, do you know what position (row and column) on the sheet the smaller 'R' occurred on? I will see if I can confirm it.

The other overprinting flaws look like inking problems to me. Something got onto the forme used for the overprinting which prevented the ink from reaching the type, or possibly the type wasn't inked properly in the first place. In either case, these are interesting flaws, but not of great importance because they're not likely to be constant: they would have occurred only on one or two sheets, and then have been cleared up.

The best flaws are constant (occurring on all stamps from the same position) like the 'tail to turban' flaw on the 3 Annas 4 Pies stamp

or what I call the 'hookah' flaw on the 3 Annas, running down from the left hand side of the Maharaja's mouth

Hi Tony

The small R is at R 1/4 - image attached.
