Not sure why this should be odd.
German sheet had indications for accounting for stock.

Sheets of 10 x 10, each column is worth DM 4 (10 x 40pf.). So, the first to eight columns add to DM 32,00.
Same for 1DM. The tenth column makes it 100 DM in stamps staring from the left.

Positional pieces, both row 1 from the sheet. The 40Pf. is position 1/8, the 1DM is position 1/10.

I think he is referring to the perforations and odd looking top design 'drift' (not straight).
It might be a scanner artifact or stamp curl when scanned?
