Hi It appears they have printed on the reverse side. Watermark looks a standout. I have searched the internet but can't find anything similar. Would appreciate any comments Thankyou   |

It looks like a ODESSA II overprint , on a Russian 1909-12 issue with varnish lozenges on the face . minmium catalog value as a mint stamp .. No reason for a forger to make a copy . |

Something was done to that stamp . Those varnish bars on the front of the stamp are unusal strong ,I am not sure if it was a heavy stamping of varnish or the stamp was dipped into something like watermark fluid or solvent. It would take a Russian expert to comment on the appearance .Paper looks funky from the rear . |

The stamp itself looks normal for the issue. The trident handstamps were done by hand for these and there are countless variations beyond what Scott lists. |

Maybe the stamp was bleached out ,to show the varnish lines, so to stand out . Something was done ,I just don't know what ! |

I've never noticed seeing a Russian (or Austrian, for that matter) stamp with varnish bars that had "tropicalised" varnish; is that a thing? (If it is, I'd imagine it might look something like this.) |

I have never seen anything like it before,
and I get some nasty stamps in "swaps" sometimes.
Then again, one member on SCF mentioned he used boiling water in his soaking of stamps, I guess anything could happen.

For me the varnish bars being seen from the front like that.
I just put it down to bad husbandry.
