Is This KGV Cut Out Private Order?

This die was used on both post office and stamped to order postcards.

The print on the back, identifies it as a STO
(Stamped to Order)

Or alternatively, was the OP's cutout from a normal postal card with printing placed on the back after sale. I don't see how the printing on the back proves a government card or a stamped to order card, unless the paper stock does not match any government paper specification. What am I missing here?

If you needed to print a batch of postcards with specific text I guess you could either:

- buy standard post office postcards and print the additional text, or

- print the required postcards and then have them stamped to order.

The first approach would seem easier to me (at least once you had set up and tested the required printing on unstamped cards) but I guess it would depend on circumstances.

By the way, I see in Huggins and Baker that this die was also used on a small number of official post cards:

- with an ADMIRALTY OFFICIAL overprint on the stamp (two versions)

- on Patent Office postcards which also had a brown 7½d PATENTS die stamped lower down on the reverse side.

Most of these official postcards were standard post office cards with additional text, plus overprint or die.

I know it's possible that the words went across the entire postcard. The answer may be obvious but I'm new this this.

I've just not seen another example on the internet. Although my google skills aren't up to par concerning stamps.
