This set of 6 stamps is used with a catalog value of $895.00 . This set was purchased with the idea that the 3 high values of this set are FAKE canceled and would not get a good cert. unless someone can show there was a
correct timed canceled device that made those thin cancels . So knowing Italy stamps it was only purchased with those 3 stamps are canceled after the fact and only canceled for it's increased philatelic value .

RANT and RAVE ------

I got a chance to view the A.P.S. forgeries and fake accumulation not correct to call it a collection ,it needs someone to spend a week or two to sort it out and organize it . Then years later got to see the top world expert on fakes and forgeries and his inventory came up for auction and thought I am going to bid for it . But what did I see and passed on it because it was a few boxes of glassines with nothing written or described what was there . Just blank envelopes with stamps inside .

So I decided to mount each fake or forgery I came a cross and write up what I can and search for REAL stamps to match them up to all the fakes I get .

First problem was there is no updated reference books for the past 50 years . The information is on line but as we all know websites disappear over time .
There is a tons of new fakes coming out each year now . But nobody is keeping records for easy references .

So here is a example of my page of fakes and the biggest thing I lack is good reference source so I am making and mounting what I find on a first attempt pages .

Please explain why you need a forgery collection (and I say that as a previous owner of a very large collection of Sperati reproductions and the Sloane collection of US and CSA fakes and forgeries). All you need is an example of the genuine and a knowledge of how the forgeries, and fake cancels can be produced. My interest was in the history of our hobby in the early years as well as forgeries meant to deceive the post office.and yes, my question is serious.

Richard ------ I collected and had a very nice collection of forgeries given to me from Dr. Matejka wife after his death . But I step it up after ebay started in 1999 . I noticed lots of new forgeries being made and sold online . Sure I had all the books of the old classic stamps and more website's had examples of these same classics .

But all this new computer made garbage ,nobody was keeping a record of it ,sure the chat rooms exposed it but nobody was building a library of these fakes , that was when I stepped up and started collecting them .

Then I visited the A.P.S. office and asked to see their collection of forgeries , I was shown three banker boxes of material and surprised by what was given to me to look at,it was a mess . So decided I am going home and organize everything I had on to pages and write up what I had and buy more of the fakes from ebay . I also started purchasing auction lots of forgery collections

This showing hundreds of album pages is not to show value but to show neatness and depth of a worldwide collection . It is easy for me to show a bunch of high value stamps to impress a few but my idea is to show everybody how easy it is to have a neat and clean expanding worldwide collection .

as I said years ago ,my goal is to see how far I can go down the path to build a decent worldwide collection .
